A small, privately run riverside park on the River Avon, in the quiet village of Barton
Find out moreDovecote Riverside Caravan Park sits on the River Avon within the Heart of England Forest, in the quiet village of Barton between Stratford-upon-Avon and Bidford-on-Avon. Its website promised river views, a wealth of walking, a local pub five minutes away on foot, and Shakespeare's Stratford-upon-Avon and the Cotswolds within a 15-minute drive.
The park described itself as small and privately run, with 38 pitches for holiday homes, some with direct views of the river, and a high bank that stops it flooding. The season ran from 1 March to 31 December on ten-month occupancy licences.
Pitches were offered for new or second-hand caravans, and the park could help with buying a new caravan, including delivery and placement. Bottled gas and electric hook-up were available, there was 24-hour private security, and residents and their guests could fish the Avon for free with a valid rod licence from the Environment Agency.
Alongside the park, Dovecote Moorings (earlier called Barton Moorings) had moorings for cruisers and narrowboats up to 60ft and riverside pitches for up to five touring caravans, all with electric hook-up.

Touring caravans could also stay at Dovecote Moorings on the same stretch of the river, a site with its own entry among the camping sites in Britain. The park lies within the Heart of England Forest, with good walks through the woodland and further afield on the public footpath network.

Shakespeare's home town, with his birthplace and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, is about a 15-minute drive away.

A riverside walk of about three miles leads to Welford-on-Avon, a village with several pubs and a local shop.
